Whooops!

March 4th, 2010 4 comments

It turns out my blog had a most unusual bug up until now: when you wanted to subscribe to it, you would be redirected to a Paypal page with a donation form. This was some really odd malfunction resulting from an influence the Paypal donation form apparently had on the subscriptions form. It could have created a false impression that I’m trying to use some dirty tricks to get a donation from you, and I sincerely apologize for that. The thing is, you can subscribe now. I decided to get rid of Paypal donations at all, but I want each donor who helped me so far to know that his/her involvement was deeply appreciated and used thoughtfully. So, once again, my sincere apologies to anyone who got the impression that I’m some sort of a trickster. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you spot anything working in a weird way on my blog again.

It’s been nearly a year since I started this blog already. During this time it has become much more popular than I anticipated. In fact, it has become so popular that I have no other choice but to move it to another server. The bad news is that all comments and polls will be locked starting December 8th until the migration is completed (not later than December 11th). The good news is that after the migration you may experience better performance of the blog as well as of its newsletter module, and – last but not least – that the blog will continue its existence in 2010 :)

Thanks to all you readers, I hope you will enjoy this blog no less in 2010. There sure are many more interesting constructions coming for you to enjoy :)

Money, money, money

April 11th, 2009 8 comments

Money is a problem for most of the people, and I am no exception. Even though I build a lot of complex stuff, there are strictly financial limits keeping me from building just anything I want. And even within these limits it’s still expensive to build well – that is to achieve desired functioning, shapes and colours, which results in the need for specific parts. I wouldn’t call myself a professional builder, but I wouldn’t call myself an amateur neither – that’s because I keep spending money to please viewers. Even the most technically advanced construction won’t impress you much if it consists of mixed colours and gaping holes.

Just to give some example, I am going to present a small model of the Dodge Tomahawk concept motorcycle sometime soon – it will be most likely not motorized due to the size, but it should be fitted with realistic suspension and a functional model of the engine. I’d like to make it partially black and partially metallic silver, so I’ve spent some money on the metallic silver parts and on some wheels that look very much like the real ones. I was able to afford it, but I keep thinking that if I had four front wheels from the 8420 set,  I could build a much larger and fully remote-controlled model. Except that these wheels are rare and expensive beyond my financial reach.

That’s why I took a liberty of enabling you to help me with my hobby. To make everything clear I’ve made a list of expensive parts that are crucial for some of my projects in the Future Projects section – there are descriptions on what exactly are they needed for, there are estimated prices and even links to the Bricklink’s parts catalogue so that you may see what your money may buy.

I am not going to change anything in the way I publish my constructions or explain my ideas – some people choose to sell theirs, but I have a different point of view. I will not try to force anybody to pay for anything – it’s just that a lot of people seem to enjoy my activity, and perhaps some of them are in position to give some aid. If you don’t feel like it – it’s perfectly fine, I still have a lot of other projects to build. It’s just that I could create some really impressive stuff if I could afford certain parts.

After a careful consideration I have decided not to credit donors by name – I feel it would create a space for misunderstandings, as some people may want to be credited more explicitly than the others plus I may happen to e.g. accidentally omit somebody. I want to avoid it, so only general credits will be given.

With all that in mind, you may use the button below (the donation’s amount is entirely up to you) or visit the Future Projects section to see what parts I need, or simply forget it and browse through the website. In any case – thank you :)
