Future Projects

August 30th, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

The future projects list has been divided into three categories that reflect the way I work: there is usually one main project at a time, and few more that are partially started and on which I focus when e.g. I need a break from the main one. Once the main project is finished, one of the partially started ones becomes the next main one.

Currently building:

  • Dodge Charger ’69 – large model of a classic supercar, built as an experiment before the Lamborghini Reventon model. Full suspension, lights, sophisticated engine model, full interior and studfull bodywork. Estimated completion time: October.
  • Leopard 2 A4 – large model of a German MBT. Suspended on torsion bars, driven by four PF XL motors, built with focus on mobility and speed. Estimated completion time: September.

Partially started:

  • Lamborghini Reventon – large model of a supercar, with 4×4 drive, full independent suspension, an illuminated engine block, lights and body made from panels.
  • Quadramaran – a floating multihulled boat built entirely with Lego pieces, powered and steered by the PF system. Intended for outdoor tests.

In the queue:

  • Bradley M2 – model of an Infantry Fighting Vehicle scaled to the new tread system. The goal is to test some advanced suspension system with front tread wheels driven, and to include more functionalities than in the usual tanks.
  • Bugatti Type 35 – model of a legendary classic racing car, lightweigh Technic-style body, complex piston engine, full suspension, perhaps a remote-controlled gearbox.
  • Crawler Crane – designed to try truss constructions a little more, and to learn some weight balancing.
  • F1 Car – large model of an F1 car based on the Ferrari 248.
  • Ford GT40 – lightweight model of a supercar driven through a gearbox and designed for speed records. Probably fitted with 4 drive motors powered from 2 separate battery boxes.
  • Hagglunds BV206 – small model of an articulated tracked carrier, scaled to the size of the LEGO rubber tracks.
  • K2 Black Panther – model of a South Korean main battle tank fitted with a sophisticated suspension system.
  • Kenworth Road Train – model of a Kenworth T900 in a set-up of Australian road train, with 3 trailers. With remote controlled gearbox, lights, remotely detached trailers and perhaps trafficators.
  • Koenigsegg CCR – large model of a supercar with body made of bricks.
  • Liebherr LTM 1200 – model of a 5-axle Liebherr mobile crane in the typical scale. Probably with full suspension and linear actuators.
  • Liebherr R944C Tunneling Excavator – small model of an unusual tunneling excavator, with few motors and lots of pneumatics controlling its sophisticated arm.
  • MAN M1001 – large model of a 4-axle heavy military truck. Full suspension, a fully remote-controlled cargo handling crane, and perhaps all-wheels drive.
  • Monster Truck – with floating axles and Power Puller wheels.
  • Pushback Tug – model of a vehicle used to tow airplanes. Built with focus on the torque, it is supposed to be able to tow some furniture around.
  • Prowler – small remote-controlled probe moving on rubber treads, fitted with lights, live feed camera and simple manipulators. Somewhat related to my Moon Rover, but more reliable and compacted to a smaller size.
  • Reach Stacker – medium size model, with linear actuators, lights, complex boom and probably up to 8 motors.
  • Skidder – based on the Caterpillar 535C, a blend of Power Functions and pneumatics.
  • Steiger Panther – large model of an articulated 4×4 tractor. Probably with a gearbox and floating axles.
  • Tow Truck II – large rotator tow truck based on Peterbilt 379. 4 axles, full suspension, elevated, extended & rotated boom, lights, custom stickers.

Hey Sariel, don’t get upset on the trial truck theme. Noone’s gonna say you didn’t try hard, there’s better and not so good ideas, you can’t know if it’ll work fine or not. You have the skills, and the experience can be gained. Better luck next year! Take a rest, and build something out of passion! =)

For quite a while I had this idea on a funner way to turn on a car with power functions. It would be to have a keyhole beside the steering wheel and behind would be a polarity switch with all the IR receivers and lights hooked up to it. On the other side of the switch there could be an axle with a short liftarm on it that rotates when the switch is turned on and would trigger a sound brick. Please reply if you follow or if you don’t understand it please tell me.

    @stefanmaster96
Well, do they ship within the whole EU?

  7. August 16th, 2010 at 19:55 | #7

Yo sariel, i have a couple of things to say.
firstly can u click on my name, coz i have got a website with some of my models on! i would be nice!
also i found a nice little hobby store in london (where i live) with some nice vintage models!! just to let u know!

    @gogolego
These wheels have diameter of 14 studs (11.2 mm) and good luck getting these, because they are extremely rare and even more extremely expensive.

what is the size of those very big technic rubber wheels because I see them ocasionally in other peoples creations and I thought that it would be nice to get some too.

    August 9th, 2010 at 18:32 | #14

    @Mihály Stépán
I’ll think about that. I can slow down the faster vehicles, and besides the videos at YouTube can be 15 minutes long now.

  15. Mihály Stépán
    August 9th, 2010 at 17:50 | #15

All right :-) can you cut upcoming trtr videos in two and accelerate it only 2x? It’s kinda un-enjoyable, you can’t really see the trucks, when they halt, speed up etc. I mean, if they are meant to be slow, show them slow. Truck trial is not for impatient people, is it? :-) @Sariel

LOL. No, the YouTube got the audio out of synchro somehow. I re-uploaded it anew, but it’s out of synchro again.

    @Mihály Stépán
Once the Charger gets a bodywork, the width of the tires won’t be visible. It’s a car with a low ground clearance, so you’ll have to look from the underside to actually note how wide the tires are.
As for splitting the future projects list, I can’t do that simply because I don’t know which models will be ready this year.

  21. Mihály Stépán
    August 5th, 2010 at 17:19 | #21

Hi Sariel! There’s something I don’t understand. You use very wide racing tires for the Charger, which is far from the real look, but you spend a lot on tan parts to imitate leather seats. As for the other projects, maybe you should fix four or five models that are surely going to be ready this year, it’d clear things up a bit. Your interest in truck trial is admirable, so are the “trucks”, but it takes up a lot of time, so you might need to reorganize the projects list. This is not a grumpy comment, just suggesting something before you fall way behind with the projects that hundreds are waiting to see come true.
Hope you don’t mind my comment, good luck with your projects!

Actually, I bought these wheels with the Bugatti in mind. And there’s no need to double the rear wheels, as the 8420′s rear wheels have much wider tires.

  23. Mike
    July 27th, 2010 at 11:48 | #23

Hmm, those 8420 wheels (if you get some more) would look good on a vintage car, like the Bugatti you want to build, they are thin enough. You could also double the rear wheels, it was a common practice on the racing cars of the ’20s, ’30s (e.g. Alfa P2, P3 etc.)

  24. Mike
    July 24th, 2010 at 22:59 | #24

Well then, it’s a good progress you’ve made in truck trial, you don’t spend all your time building them. I think that Wrangler was a milestone.

  25. Sariel
    July 24th, 2010 at 22:48 | #25

Many of us specialize just in Trial trucks. The crown gears are much weaker and more likely to snap.

  26. Mike
    July 24th, 2010 at 22:42 | #26

Oh, and one more question. I think the 24 tooth crown gears have less backlash, are they weaker than the ones you are using in the rear suspension?

  27. Mike
    July 24th, 2010 at 22:39 | #27

Hi Sariel, that rear suspension for the Fiat truck looks promising! You just have to be careful, the truck might get stuck on those reinforcing liftarms. Is there anyone amongst you guys who “specializes” only in building trial trucks?

  28. Sariel
    July 17th, 2010 at 17:28 | #28

Nope, I don’t have this one.

Out of wild curiosity, do you have the book Classic American Cars by Quentin Willson? :-D

  30. Mihály Stépán
    July 17th, 2010 at 09:40 | #30

Or you can see a black I think 1968 one (double round back lights) in the 1997 remake of Vanishing point, though not for long, they crash it up a bit…and there’s a black Charger in Bullitt, also not too lucky (runs into gas station)…haven’t seen the Tarantino movie, I’ll try to get it. Also I’ll look around on the web, I know you could order Challengers with 3 different stripe patterns, I’m curious what the options for the Charger were.

  31. Sariel
    July 16th, 2010 at 23:32 | #31

No, the whole body will be black, with yellow racing stripes. The interior will be probably dark grey, perhaps with tan seats. I’m going to use one funny detail, a minifig Jack-o’-lantern hanging from the rear view mirror. I do not share the General Lee craze, I’m more into Tarantino’s “Deathproof” when it comes to the Charger.

  32. Mihály Stépán
    July 16th, 2010 at 21:26 | #32

    Hi Sariel!
I see some people want General Lee..:-D I think if you build a body with bricks, black is best, it “hides” the lines between the parts. Are you going to make the roof a different color? Maybe you could put a Rebel Flag sticker on to satisfy fans.. :-D

    No. Yes.

  36. Mihály Stépán
    July 10th, 2010 at 14:24 | #36

Sariel, are you going to use the 8448 wheels for the Charger? Is it going to have a live rear axle?

    July 9th, 2010 at 23:34 | #37

I think the tow truck II and the Liebherr mobile crane are great ideas, especially since you haven’t made many of either one.

    July 9th, 2010 at 20:50 | #38

Charger is a legend, Challenger too, I’m sure you’ve seen Vanishing point. Is this the R/T version? You know it’d be superb if you could use the micromotor to tilt the headlights…That’s something really mean on that car. :-D Can’t wait! Good luck!

oh, but that really sucks. Did you click on my link? And is the reventon going to be fast?

  41. Sariel
    July 7th, 2010 at 00:14 | #41

Sorry, I have absolutely no time to make instructions for something that complex. Hope the photos, video and description will inspire you anyway.

    July 6th, 2010 at 22:56 | #42

when you build the Reventon could you please publish instructions because i have been trying to build a super car for almost two months now and I never had success. So please can you make instructions so I can get an idea for a super car.

And by the way check out this dodge tomahawk http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/208464

Sariel, for the Kenworth: I think it’s a kangaroo catcher! seriously, I read it in some article about road trains. :-)

  46. Sariel
    June 29th, 2010 at 18:38 | #46

No, I don’t think so. I realize this vehicle has a legend of its own, but it’s technically very simple and would be a much better subject for people who build static models.

    Hi (Paul) sariel,

I was wondering, are planning to make a Volkswagen Microbus? See URL :
