Downloadable instructions improved
My free downloadable instructions have been improved with included parts lists and reduced file size.
I have overhauled contents of my Downloads page, by creating most instructions again, with improvements. The improvements appear in 12 out of 17 instructions, as I couldn’t rework all the files (e.g. some of them are old and I lost the original files due to a HDD failure), and there are basically two of them:
- the instructions now include parts lists: they start with an extra first page containing complete parts lists for entire project listed in a yellow box
- the instructions files weigh less now: I have compressed the PDF files with minimal quality loss (rasterized them at 300 dpi) and in most cases that reduced the size by half. The quality loss is hard to notice, I’m starting to see it only when zooming at 600%. This change is for your convenience as well as for mine – I’m paying more and more every year to keep this website up, and the files being downloaded from it constitute most of my bills. Hopefully this change is improvement for everyone.
Due to various reasons I was unable to rework 5 instructions: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Land Rover S2 chassis, Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster, Octopod Walker Module and Trophy Truck chassis. In some cases I simply no longer had files, in others the instructions were created in a different way that I have no way of reworking now. To make up for it, I have added, by a popular demand, instructions for a custom heavy duty tank track.
I hope these changes make instructions more useful to you. Should you come across any bugs, please report them in comments. If you are seeing old version of some PDF file (doesn’t start with parts list), try refreshing page so your browser downloads the current version.
I guess that depends on the host. On some hosts you can’t really update a file but of course you can always upload the new file again and then replace the link here. There are even hosts dedicated for just pdf-files, maybe they are worth looking into if you are interested in reducing your bills. One more option is, if you have a google account, is to use google docs to share the files.
@Mikko
Wouldn’t it make updating a file difficult?
There are tons of free filehosts available all over the internet (such as zippyshare, gamefront or mega), why don’t you host your files in one of them and then post only the links in the download section?
Great work! It’s really amazing, that you can find time and perseverance to do all that you do. Thanks for that, great book btw – got it for xmass, by popular demand of me ๐
@TechnoFan
I don’t know what is the problem, I’ve tested it and it works for me.
Hi The instructions are very nice and professional type. Keep up the good work.Only problem is when is downloaded the ‘mini steering system with pivots’ I get a blank screen with no instructions. It will be nice if you could fix that problem.
Thanks Mr Professional ๐
