A typical forklift. Features 3-section tiltable mast, remote drive and steering.

Completion date: 12/04/2008
Power: electric (Power Functions)
Dimensions:  length 50 studs / width 21 studs / height 31 studs
Weight: 1.12 kg
Suspension: none
Motors: 4 x PF Medium

The Lego 8416 set is one of the sets I liked, but rather to re-build than to buy. Insired by that, I wanted to build a small, compact forklift with a complex mast, featuring 3 sections extended by Jennifer Clark’s pulleys system. I have given up the suspension system to save space, and thus I was able to fit 4 PF Medium motors inside. Two of them control drive and steering, the third one tilts the mast forwards and backwards, and the fourth one pulls the string that activates the extension mechanism. The mast was able to lift up one full battery box, that is nearly 200 grams. I’m sure the system is capable of lifting more, given a stronger motor and slightly redesigned pulleys system.

This model offered an excellent complexity-to-playability relation.

    @Zdenek Sommr
    I have doubts if you can actually lift something that heavy that far precisely enough using Lego. Perhaps a scissor lift mechanism could work for that.

    Dear Mr. Sariel,

    I’d like to ask you, if you could help me with a telescopic lift. I’m building a two-storeyed maquette of a city at home and need (due to limited room-space and due to small gradient of railroad possibility) 4 (connected) tracks (with a train) to lift (electro-)mechanically 51 cm (=20 inches) upwards (to the 2nd storey).
    I went through the entire catalog of Lego sets and quite thoroughly the internet, but haven’t found any detailed instruction on such a lift. Unfortunately I’m not able/don’t have enough skills to build it.
    Thank you for your answer/help in advance.

    Może odświeżysz ten model? Można by tu dać jakąś skrzynię biegów (jest zdecydowanie za szybki) oświetlenie, może nawet stabilizatory (nie wiem jak to się nazywa)
