Small telehandler, features 4 motors and some pneumatics.

Datasheet:

Completion date: 28/07/2007
Power: electric (wire-controlled) / pneumatic (fed from external manual pump)
Dimensions: length 58 studs / width 22 studs / height 17 studs
Weight:  0.89 kg
Suspension: none
Motors: 1 x RC, 1 x 47154, 2 x 71427
Pneumatics: two circuits with external airtank

Inspired by the LEGO 8283 set which I haven’t ever bought. To reconcile the small size with the functionality, I had to give up the suspension. The model is driven by a 47154 motor, and has an RC motor attached at the back as a counterweight. The RC motor lifts the boom by a geared axle, without use of pneumatics, which turned out to be a bad idea, resulting in a poor load capacity and some gears damage. Two 71427 motors control the steering and the boom extension. The steering wheel in the cab is fully functional. The pneumatic system is in a large part located outside, as the pump, valves and the airtank are put together as an external module. One pneumatic circuit controls the tilt of the fork, the other deploys small outriggers in the front of the model – a solution present in some of the heavier Caterpillar telehandlers.

Sariel, it is amazing to go through your old posts and then see the new ones, just to see how much your building skills have matured. It is amazing. I am planning on building a telehandler soon.

    Hi Sariel!

I’ve been looking at your site for quite a time now, and I admire your LEGO creations. Just another idea (as if you do not have enought), why not build a remote controll replica of this veichle, with a mechanically leveled fork?

If you build this veichle, I think it would have more applications that this one.

Just an idea for future building.
